Of Happiness, Warm Hearts, and a Whole Bunch of Infinities

When we were young, fairy tales taught us how there’s only one person we are destined to live with for the rest of our lives and I admit, I firmly believed this idea. My seven-year-old self probably found it magical and romantic like most of the kids during that age. Fortunately, David Levithan and Rachel Cohn saved me from this rather incredible lie that the universe made up. On their novel entitled, “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List,”  the two authors perfectly countered this idea.

“It’s a total lie to say there’s only one person you’re going to be with for the rest of your life. If you’re lucky – and if you try really hard – there will always be more than one. ”

That line stuck with me ever since I read it and it’s probably because it’s true. As I grew older, I appreciated the comfort I often find with my friends rather than the idea of a romantic partner. In my opinion, it’s because friendships are one of the strongest ties there ever is. Also, it’s the truest form of fairy tales.

With that said, I would like to dedicate this post to the seven people who made every moment of this year spectacular.

First of all, to this guy who fights every single person who mistreats us, thank you for always watching our backs. I know that I often tell you not to make people hate you just for our sake but I know it’s no use. You’re the kind of person who fights hard for your loved ones and even though it’s not necessary for you to fight our own battle, I appreciate the gesture.

I know that this year was particularly hard for you and I know how you’re staying strong amidst all of your problems and I love you for doing so. Whenever I see you fooling around and trying your best to make us laugh even though you’re having a bad day, I kind of wish I can be as strong as you.

This Christmas, I hope that you will continue to smile sweetly, love with every beat of your heart and fight your battles bravely. And in case you need reinforcements, don’t forget to call us because we also got your back. Okay? I love you!

To one of the most sensible and kind person in our group, thank you for always encouraging us to do the right thing. I often think badly of myself because let’s face it, I’ve done a lot of stupid things in my life but because of you, I’m starting to learn how to think of the other person first before doing something impulsive. And as Lily Collins said in the film Stuck In Love, “You make me feel less cynical.”

Thank you for being an excellent listener and an honest friend. More than anything, I wish you happiness and warmth this Christmas. I know that you’re a strong person even though you’re quiet most of the time so I’m sure that no matter what happen, you’re going to overcome it. Love you, Grace!

(P.S. I’m not sure if I’m the one who took this photo. Lol)

For the girl whose made of sugar and joy, thank you for making me smile and for always offering a helping hand. Last year, I wrote about how you should learn how to say no to people who’ll just hurt you and this year, you’ve done just that. I was honestly surprised with how you handled things with a certain someone that by the way, I would gladly trip if I ever see him walking alone. You bravely talked about the things you wanted and did not take any bullshit from him. I’m proud of you, girl.

I’m glad that you now see your heart as something people should not mess with. You deserve all the love that you can get and you should not hesitate to leave someone if they ever take you or your feelings for granted. Remember, you are (so, so much) worth it.

I wish you a Christmas filled with love and laughter. I love you!

To the girl made of the strongest armor, thank you for always making me remember my worth and for talking me out of most of my ridiculous plans. There were lots of things that changed for you this year and I know that some part of you is still feeling guilty for what happened, I already said this to you before and I’m repeating it again: don’t.

You did the right thing and it doesn’t matter how many people don’t understand it or how painful it is. In the end, what is right is what matters. You deserve to be happy too, Tricia. Don’t take that away from yourself.

This Christmas, I wish you peace and lots of happiness. Continue to face life while taking zero bullshits. Love you!!

To the girl filled with beautiful words and lovely smiles, thank you for constantly worrying about us. I always find your concern so overwhelming and I often tell myself not to do or say stuff that will further worry you since I can feel how much you want us to feel better.

So for that, I am really grateful. You have a lot in your hands right now but believe me, everything’s going to be alright. You are more than capable of overcoming your problems so keep on staying strong, okay? We are always here for you, remember that.

I wish for more wonderful music for you (because you love it more than anything else) and all the laughter in the universe. I hope to see more of your smiles next year because you look the brightest whenever you do it. Love you, Belle!

For the person who always looks at the lighter side of things, thank you for making everything easier not only for me but for all of us. You and Jann have been the constant stress reliever in the group and I can’t imagine us without the both of you.

Thank you for bearing with my annoying rambles and ridiculous stories. You might think it’s not much but it isn’t. You put color in our lives and while I am not much of a painter, you made us and the moments we spent together a masterpiece.

I wish that you continue to live boldly and bravely and that you finally (finally!!!) find someone who will love you as much as we do (and more). Love you, girl!

(I also don’t know if I took this photo haha)

To the person who never fails to amaze me with her bravery, thank you. This year was also a tough year for you but I am so glad that you’ve overcome it. It might not look like it, but you are one of the most courageous people I’ve ever met and I am so lucky to be friends with you.

Continue to fight for what you believe in and you can expect to see us in the back, always supporting you. Do not hesitate to lean on us whenever there’s too much going on. We will offer you warm hugs and laughter as much as you want.

I wish you a beautiful Christmas with the people you love the most. I love you, Cang!

Thank you guys for everything. I know that the hours we spend together get shorter and lesser because of our thesis but I am still grateful for those moments no matter how long or short it is. You made my college life wonderful and I will surely miss you once we graduate and do our own things. Also, I hope that all of our dreams for our future will come true!

The future may be scary but it’s alright since I’ve got the best people by my side. I love you, guys! We make one heck of a beautiful fairy tale, I’m sure of it. Haha. ♥ ♥ ♥

A Very “Tita” Tribute

There’s a few hours left until the start of another year and I kind of want to say thank you to all of the people who stayed with me during 2015 amidst all of the unfortunate and amazing things that happened in my life.

There are a LOT of people that I feel grateful to and therefore deserves to be put in my blog but I can’t possibly thank everyone of them so I decided to dedicate this post to probably the craziest bunch of people that I have (and will) ever met.

  1. To the best food buddy, stress buddy and org buddy (lol whut?!) who is seriously one text and chat away–thank you.  There were a lot of things that happened to the two of us this year (most of them bad) and all throughout those moments, you were there for me. You stayed by my side in almost every fucking tear that I shed this year and I am sincerely thankful for that. If my life is a sitcom, you are the laugh track. Or the punchline of a joke. Scratch that. You are Barney and I’m Ted. Whenever Ted’s down, Barney is always ready to take him to another strip club or to another legendary adventure. In our case, a trip to McDonald’s. Or basically any restaurant that serves good food. HAHA. So, thank you. I’m sure that if weren’t for you, 2015 wouldn’t be legendary. WHAT UP!

2. To the girl with a small frame but a brave heart who always make me laugh with her one of a kind love story, (Oo talagang ito! HAHA) thank you so much. I’ve enjoyed every single moment that we spent huddling on a McDonald’s booth and talking about various stuff about our lives. You’re one of the most reasonable person in our group and I hope that you continue to be that way. I wish that you’d be more careful with giving away your heart. Remember, a broken umbrella’s hard to fix. Lol.

3. To the number one fangirl of all things British and Australian, thank you. You’ve always reminded me of my younger self who tirelessly devotes half of her time to her favorite bands and shows and is almost always sleep-deprived. I know that it’s easy to be misunderstood especially when the people you love the most doesn’t even know you exist but I personally know that it’s all worth it. I hope to read more of your writings because those random 1AM Facebook statuses and tweets are really good. Keep the spirit of a fangirl alive! Haha!

4. To one of the nicest girl that I’ve ever met (and probably one of the most easiest to play tricks to. Lol), thank you. I know that we always discourage your hugot lines about your love life but I sincerely hope for you to find a good man who will rebuild all those broken boyfriend goals that you have. Lol. In 2016, I wish that you’ll learn how to say no to the right people at the right time. I know that it’s tiring to keep on opening your heart to people who are just going to carelessly throw and ignore it but I’ve always liked that about you. I like how you don’t see the bad things first. I like how easygoing you are. I like how you trust so easily. You don’t hesitate so much unlike me which is a good thing. You’re a really good person and the guy who will end up with you is going to be really lucky. Nuxxx!

5. To the no bullshit girl with a huge che–heart! Haha! Thank you so, so much. You were the person I ran to when I was so damn tired and I felt like crying for a whole year. I still haven’t erased those text messages that you sent me that night. I was so thankful to you then, because I was able to slept that night. I was able to unload thousands, maybe even millions of thorns in my shitty heart thanks to you. I know that you think so little of yourself and I’m saying this now, DON’T. You are a fucking talented person and whoever says otherwise needs to be slapped with a fucking two-door refrigerator. Seriously, you’re a wonderful person and I am absolutely sure that you and the rest of us are going to succeed. So don’t overthink, okay? Everything’s going to be fine. We are going to rock 2016. Haha.

6. To the sassiest person I’ve ever met who is 80% annoying most of the time (Heh heh), thank you. I know that we don’t get along really well since we both don’t like losing arguments and I don’t tend to just let you continue doing stupid things to yourself and to other people and you almost always don’t listen, so yeah. Haha. (I just summarized our relationship! HA!) Seriously, I wish that you’d be more careful this time around. You are a great person and even though you have lots and lots of growing up to do (Because let’s face it. Haha), I know that if you really try and I mean really, really try, you can be in a steady relationship again. I also wish that you tone down a little bit with the asshole/bitchy image because people are sincerely buying it. I know that you’re not just that so try to show it less, okay? I also wish that before saying “I’m done” or “Whatever” in any situation, you have already think about it beforehand and you’re not saying it just for the sake of saying it. And please try to be less annoying. Ims. Haha.

*   *   *

Happy New Year, guys! Thank you so much for allowing me to write my life story with all of you. I love you! And here’s to many more late night talks, coffee floats, voice messages, food trips, laughter, BFF fries, heart to heart convos, guy crushes, dp goals and a whole lot more wonderful things with all of you!

Wakataktak? Wakataktak. Haha! ♥♥♥

A Birthday Note

It’s official, I’m 18!!! And being 18 means I’m legal. Literally. Last year was the year I grew up the most. Life threw some pretty hard rocks in my direction but I managed to overcome all of it. I know that this year would be a very challenging one (Hello 3rd year college, major subjects and OJT!) but I believe that I can come out of it alive and happy.

Anyway, since this is a birthday note I just want to thank all of the important people in my life. Here it goes!

1. To the queen of fabulous walk-outs and the most supportive mother ever created, thank you. Thank you for everything, Mom. Even though I’m the most maarte, loud, selfish and crazy daughter in the whole universe, you still love me. Thanks a bunch, Mom! I wouldn’t be this fabulous if it weren’t for you.

2. To my father. For the corny jokes and English conversation failures. I know that I still need to prove myself to you, Dad. Trust me, that day is near. Just wait for me okay, Dad? I love you and thank you.

3. To the craziest bunch of people who always have my back, thank you. Thank you for the late night conversations, surprise parties, photoshoots, late night snacks, movie and TV series marathons, shopping dates and even for the petty cat fights–thank you. I may not say it all the time, but you three are the most wonderful siblings in the whole world! I love you and I know that you feel the same way with me, too. HA. *winks*

4. To my High School best friends, a.k.a the angels. Haha. Thank you! We’ve been through a lot of mishaps but I’m glad that we all still made it. Thank you guys for comforting me through all my dramatic moments, for all of the advice (both good and bad), for the singing parties (The Twinkle, Twinkle!), for the unlimited stories, for the shared snacks and home made lunches, for the jeepney and bus rides, for the fangirling and especially for K-pop. I can’t thank you guys enough for every single thing you did for me. Just remember that I’m always here. Love you, guys!

5. To the most beautiful girls I’ve ever met–to my “forever.” Haha! Thank you girls! Thanks for constantly bearing with me for seven years. For making me laugh, for always supporting me, for the gossips, for the deep conversations about love and life, for the many birthday celebrations, for the house parties, for the money loaning, for the movie escapades, for the shared answers in exams and assignments and for staying solidly with me through seven incredible years! Thank you so, so much girls! I love you to the moon and back! ♥♥♥

6. To the people who made me realize how special I am, to my second family–to MD. Thank you. I didn’t know how capable I am before you pushed me outside of my little island and made me jump into the vast ocean in front of me. Thank you for trusting me, supporting me and teaching me every day. I am aware that you took a great risk with me and I am forever grateful for that. Also, thank you for making me realize my worth. I promise that I will do my best. I love you so much, MD!!!!

7. To the certified titas of Malolos, thank you. For the midnight Facebook conversations, for the KFC and Mcdonald’s dates, for the pep talks, for the always hungry days and for all the laughter. Thank you for making my should-have-been-stressed college life into a fun one. We have two more years to go and we’re done! We can all do this, titas! Love you!!!

Lastly, I want to thank myself. For finally looking at the positive side of things instead of the negative one, for never giving up, for being stronger and tougher, for being the sassiest person that ever existed, for believing once and for all to myself and for always choosing happiness. Happy Birthday, dear self! Let’s make this year another happy one, okay? Okay!  🙂
