Lost in a maze called, “Today”

Today seems like an ordinary day,

Instead of chirping birds, I stare at dusty paper cranes.

Outside, the world continued to play

Unaware of things called, “pain”

Today seems like an ordinary day,

Waking up and avoiding the mirror like a game,

Hiding in the darkest corners, as if to say there isn’t a way –

With thoughts like these, it’s a challenge to stay sane.

Today seems like an ordinary day,

Nauseous of bitter coffee and emptiness.

I glance at the sky but all I see is gray,

Mimicking my self-portrait of hopelessness.

Today seems like an ordinary day,

The bent umbrella foolishly soaking in the rain,

As if begging the misery to run away,

Loading heartbreaks disguised as suitcases in the last passenger train.

Brave, little girl,
Wipe away your tears
The rain is sensing your fears.

Strong, little girl,
Now, cease your howling
For the wind is approaching.

Sweet, little girl,
Please try to look up.
The sky’s not going to stop

For you, my dear–
Is a survivor,
And loneliness is just a little bastard.

Shine, my darling,
You are the bright sun.
You, are the promise of a new beginning.

So, shine and burn.
Blind us with your light,
Free your sorrows from its cage and burn–just burn.

Playlist #1: For the Pouring Rain

Photo taken from Lim Kim’s Rain Music Video. I just edited it a little bit.

It’s that time of the year again. Yep, you guessed it right! Sweater Weather! Lol, who am I kidding? It’s still hot here. The perks of living in a tropical country. It’s more like, we-should-bathe-in-ice-cold-water-weather. No kidding.

So when a sudden downpour of rain happens, I always get excited because finally the unbearable hotness will be replace by a slightly cooler temperature. Because of that, I started listening to my very own Rainy Day Playlist which I decided to share to all of you today.

Let’s start! 🙂

1. Lim Kim- Rain

My Favorite Part:

Rain – I still don’t have any memories
Because I’m just a twenty year old girl
Rain – in my earphones, the singer is singing a song about rain
What is she so sad about? Why is she about to cry?

2. IU- Raindrop

My Favorite Part:

Suddenly, the rain pours on my head

Without a word, I got wet…

The memory is falling down

Along the tears, just like a fool

3. Younha- Umbrella

My Favorite Part:

You are the umbrella above my head
On nights when the cold rain falls on my shoulders
You have become a habit next to me
So I can’t live without you…
Alone in the rain

4. Epik High- Umbrella

Note: This is the original Umbrella. Tablo (the one who composes songs for Epik High) decided to give the song to Younha for her anniversary. Younha collaborated with Epik High in this song way back in 2008, I think.

My Favorite Part:

Sounds of the clock in an barren room
The noise of the rain on the roof and my lips
Inside the pocket of the coat I rarely wear
is the ring along with the overwhelming memory

5. Beast- Will You Be Alright?

My Favorite Part:

Rather than me without you, you without me makes me more worried

Because you’re not good at doing things on your own

Will you be alright? Even if I’m not by your side?

6. Akdong Musician- Melted

Note: I encourage everyone to WATCH this music video. Even though it’s Korean, I’m pretty sure all of you will relate to it. It’s about the coldness in every person’s hearts and how the harsh reality easily destroys our innocence.

My Favorite Part:

If the ice melts, a warmer song would have come out
But why is the ice so cold? Why is it so cold?
Why are they so cold
Why are they so cold

7. IU- Sogyeokdong

My Favorite Part:

One day, when the stream suddenly dried up,
my young heart died just like the water in the stream.
I remember everything about you.
Small moments in a day would make my day.
Then one day, my world turned upside down.
Cherish what you have now, for it could vanish in an instant.

8. Masayoshi Yamazaki- One More Time, One More Chance

My Favorite Part:

I’m always searching, for your figure to appear somewhere
At a street crossing, in the midst of dreams
Even though I know you couldn’t be at such a place
If a miracle were to happen here, I would show you right away
The new morning, who I’ll be from now on
And the words I never said: “I love you.”

9. Sky Sailing- Brielle

My Favorite Part:

Like a butterfly, you floated by and now you’re alone
I wish I knew when I’ll be back again
So until then I wish you well
So until then I wish you well
I love you my darling, farewell.
My dear Brielle

10. Keira Knightley- A Step You Can’t Take Back (Begin Again OST)

My Favorite Part:

Here comes the rain, so hold your hat
And don’t pray to God, ’cause He won’t talk back
Are you ready for the last act?
To take a step you can’t take back, back, back?
You can’t take back, back, back.

Aaaand, there you go! My Rainy Day playlist is done. I know that most of the songs have a sad melody but seriously, who can resist not playing a sad song when it’s raining? Definitely not me. Haha. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it! Have a nice and happy summer, you all! ♥

On Rainy Days

(Note: This poem is inspired by this song from Epik High.)

On rainy days,

Our emotions always spill,

It’s as if our hearts become the sky,

Revealing our ugliest scars.

On rainy days,

We are accompanied by regrets,

It’s as if we are compelled by the rain,

Urging us to feel its sadness.

On rainy days,

Our thoughts go back to that person,

It’s as if the rain is a time machine,

Replaying every unwanted memory.

On rainy days,

We tear ourselves apart,

It’s as if we become raindrops,

Hopelessly falling from above.

On rainy days,

Our nights are filled with questions,

It’s as if we become little children,

Searching for happy endings that doesn’t exist.

Midsummer Night

A starless night sky; where only vivid flashes of lightning can be seen. It was painstaking– seeing the cheerful world around me.

The sound of the bubbling water called me so I sat among the people I’ve known my whole life. But why, do I feel so alone?

The water was warm and comforting. Yet my whole body cannot feel anything. I’m like a broken glass container– empty and forgotten.

I walked away, no one will notice me anyway. I was there and I wasn’t. It’s always like that.

But as the clock ticked nine, the heavens started to cry. It whispered to my ears and tried to wash away some of my loneliness.

But it’s no use.  So I walked all alone, under a starless night sky on a midsummer night. The rain didn’t eased away my pain but it somehow reminded me that I am still alive, that I am not alone. Not really.

“I’ll be okay. Soon. I’ll be okay.”
